5 Honest Differences between a Life Partner and a True Soulmate

The biggest mistake that most people make today is that they consider a soulmate and a life partner as one and the same thing. However, there are certain key differences that you need to be aware of, that exist between them both.

A life partner is someone who you can trust and is a companion in life, whereas a soulmate is someone who can teach you and make you think in different ways and connects to you on a metaphysical level.

Here are all the differences between a life partner and a soulmate that you need to know.

#1: Life partners usually hang around longer than soulmates.

You can find a soulmate in anyone- a family member, a lover or even a friend, and they tend to fulfill a specific passion or need in your life. Their arrival and help is usually timely and vital, but once the purpose of their arrival is achieved, they tend to virtually disappear whether or not you want them to.

Life partners, on the other hand, tend to share the same experiences and interests as you, and stick around for long, sometimes an entire lifetime, and will be there to provide significant aid and support. Life partners also offer encouragement to help you take risks that can help you be more successful and happy and tend to be more emotionally connected to you.

#2: Soulful differences.

Soulmates tend to connect with your heart and consciousness and the connection is usually intense and quick. However, this intensity tends to be short-lived and is often heartbreaking, and you’ll end up learning karmic lessons throughout the process of being with them, which are vital to your long term peacefulness.

In contrast, with life partners, you’ll find a unique acceptance and love which is more natural and calm, and the love with them will usually keep burning for years. Elizabeth Gilbert very beautifully explains “A soulmate’s purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life.”

#3: Different attractions.

When you meet your soulmate, you’ll feel that you’ve known them for years, and it almost seems like you both can read each other’s minds. This tends to resemble a magnetic attraction, but in most cases, it is actually pole reversal and you cannot be happy and peaceful for a long term.

However, life partners tend to establish a healthy emotional connection with you and as time passes, you both, as individuals, continue to learn from each other and grow.

#4: Soulmate connections are intuitive.

With soulmates, thinking and feeling tends to be closely intertwined together, and fewer words need to be spoken between the two of you to communicate.

With life partners, the attraction is articulated and physical and is mostly based on intellectual stimulation.

#5: Soulmates are rare.

Being in a relationship with a soulmate can be fleeting and painful, but it can help you move on in life and be more positive and productive in general. In contrast, with a life partner, you can share a more enduring and joyful relationship whether the both of you tend to make each other’s lives better.

While it is definitely possible for someone to be your life partner and soulmate both, the soulmate must fulfill their purpose first before the partner is actually ready for a life partner.

Dr Carmen Harra clearly explains “Your soul mate makes you feel entirely intact, like no piece is missing from the puzzle. A life partner, on the other hand, can be a great supporter and long-time companion, but is limited in his or her capacity to enrich your spirit.”
