Listen To These Breathtaking Last Words From A Dying 24 Year Old

A twenty-four year old young man recently shared his story and his advice on Reddit—but more for the benefit of every other human being on Earth, rather than his own.

While others deliberate in the morning over which tie to wear to work on a given day, this man has one selected months in advance: “I am only 24 years old, yet I have actually already chosen my last tie. It’s the one that I will wear on my funeral a few months from now. It may not match my suit, but I think it’s perfect for the occasion. . . . I am writing to you for a selfish reason. I want to give meaning to my life by sharing with you what I have realized.”

Although he claims to be selfish, it is heartwarmingly obvious that he is anything but this. Instead of being selfish with his time and energy, this young man has spent them selflessly attempting to help other human beings enjoy the far greater amount of time and energy that they have left to them: “Don’t waste your time on work that you don’t enjoy. It is obvious that you cannot succeed in something that you don’t like. Patience, passion, and dedication come easily only when you love what you do.”

Of course, these words and sentiments have been spoken and shared by others countless times before. Yet—unmistakably—they inherently carry much greater weight and penetrate deeper coming from someone in such a dire state: “I’m not upset because I understand that the last days of my life have become meaningful. I only regret that I will not be able to see a lot of cool stuff that should happen soon like the creation of AI, or Elon Musk’s next awesome project. I also hope that the war in Syria and Ukraine will end soon.”

Indeed, future human achievements, human achievers, and potential peace are incredibly inspiring on their own. However, the honour and worth of these things is inevitably enhanced when the source of the words is considered: “Leave a mark in this world. Have a meaningful life, whatever definition it has for you. Go towards it. . . . Our life is a short spark in this beautiful little planet that flies with incredible speed to the endless darkness of the unknown universe. So, enjoy your time here with passion. Make it interesting. Make it count! Thank you!”

Yes!

But—no—thank you.
