The Largest Ocean Cleanup In History Will Begin By 2020.
21-year-old Boyan Slat found a way to actually clean up our planet’s oceans, and it’s genius! Boyan devised a system using the ocean’s own currents to collect trash, reducing the theoretical cleanup time from millennia to only a few years. In February 2013 he dropped out of his Aerospace Engineering study to start The Ocean Cleanup. In August 2015, The Ocean Cleanup conducted the Mega Expedition, in which a fleet of approximately 30 vessels crossed the Great Pacific garbage patch and collected more data on oceanic plastic than has been collected in the past 40 years combined. This expedition was conducted in preparation for a large-scale cleanup of the Great Pacific garbage patch, which it intends to start in 2020!
