6th November 2014: 120,000 anti-austerity protesters in Belgium flood through the streets of Brussels, marching against the government’s new plans to cut workers’ wages, cut social programs such as healthcare and social security benefits, and increase the retirement age. The protestors were met with tear gas and water cannon repression after nearly two hours of peaceful demonstration. Once the riot police began the violent flare, some radical demonstrators started throwing objects at police, some set off colored smoke flares.

There were reports of injuries among police as well as among demonstrators. 14 demonstrators were reportedly taken to area hospitals. More protests are planned regionally, building up to a national strike on the 15th of December.
