Inside you is the vision and voice of who you know you’re meant to be. Maybe you haven’t been able to fully channel it yet, but you know this voice is a call from home asking you to wake up and live the life you are meant to live. Here are five ways to stop being afraid of being the best version of you.
1. What does the past mean? It’s just a story.
A lot of times we determine our self-worth based on past experiences, but they are just stories. Psychology today agrees that it is our brain’s job to make sense of the world to keep our bodies safe so that we survive. Part of the way it makes sense of things is by telling these stories. In an effort to make sense of a past situation our brain creates thought associations between those events. Often these become limiting patterns that keep us from being able to try new things or express ourselves the way we want. Regardless of what limiting beliefs you have, know that they are just a story. They are not the truth of who you are. Stories can be changed. How?
2. Live in the present: Face your dragon
If you can bring yourself out of the past into this moment, this is where you can change your limitations. Don’t define yourself by your past, that’s just a story remember? This moment is full of pure potential. If you must remember the past, redefine it so that it holds positive meaning for you. Maybe it’s as simple as remembering the last time you went to that karaoke bar and fell on your face. Today is a new day, you don’t have to let that stop you from singing or from asking that cute girl for her number. You did learn to take better care of yourself and you survived with new gusto. Maybe you don’t have it all figured out yet, you still have student loans to pay off, or you’ve dealt with bankruptcy, but you don’t have to let that stop you from taking action in the direction you want to go right now. This is the moment you redefine your story and say: I will not let that limit me, I am creating my life the way I want it to be right now.
3. Accept mistakes as part of the process
Every expert was a beginner at some point. It doesn’t matter how long it actually takes you to master something, just keep approaching it as if you already knew how and try until you get it just the way you want. Winners never quit. Hold the vision of your intention, tell your mind you are already there, and your physical reality will catch up as fast as you can get up and try again.
4. Ride the energy wave
When you approach things as if you are already the expert, you are riding an energy wave that physically takes you to where you want to be. When you allow yourself to tap into the present moment and behave as the best version of you would, action flows effortlessly. These inspired actions take you to your destination. Don’t worry about the how, that’s just your brain trying to make up things to keep you safe and predictable. Don’t listen to those old fear stories, and instead just do it. Whatever you want to do. If you ride the energy wave the rest will take care of itself.
5. Get over the fear of being lonely and be amazing
Some people are afraid that if they amp up their vibration and reach success they’ll leave their friends in the dust. Look, to be a leader you have to break the rules, tear down walls and shake things up. Not everyone is going to keep up or like it because your energy will push people past their comfort zones. Realize that you are meant to grow and ultimately you will only be happy if you can reach your own potential. You are an explorer and limit breaker. There may be times along your journey when you think you feel lonely but that’s just a story. The best version of you cannot be lonely except by choice — not with all that charm! You are actually on your way to reaching your dreams and feeling the most fulfilled possible because everything you do is aligned with your values. When you live your life with purpose the people who are truly meant to stay do, because they genuinely connect with who you are. Growth and authenticity always propel the right people towards you, so do your best and be amazing at what you do. You won’t be lonely and you won’t regret it.
