About Matisyahu and This Remake of One Day

Matisyahu is the Hebrew name for Matthew Paul Miller born on June 30, 1979. He is an American reggae rapper and alternative rock musician known for blending Orthodox Jewish themes with reggae, rock and hip hop beatboxing sounds. Matisyahu’s 2005 single “King Without a Crown” was a Top 40 hit in the United States.

This remade song of One Day is a reminder of the conflicts barraging the world and the hardships in the Middle East. The singer of the remade video shares her personal experience and perspective by expressing her feelings through this song. Soulspot TV sees the significance of it and commenced with an in-depth discussion about this before sharing.

Here is what we had to say about One Day after watching the original video and reflecting on the lyrics.

The Lyrics of One Day, by Matisyahu

Sometimes I lay under the moon
And I thank God I’m breathin’
Then I pray don’t take me soon
‘Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it’ll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin’ for
I been prayin’ for, for the people to say
That we don’t want to fight no more
They’ll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

It’s not about win or lose ’cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent blood
Drenched pavement keep on movin’
Though the waters stay ragin’

And in this life you may lose your way
It might drive you crazy
But don’t let it phase you, no way

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it’ll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin’ for
I been prayin’ for, for the people to say
That we don’t want to fight no more
They’ll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence down with the hate
One day we’ll all be free and proud
To be under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like

What Soulspot Has to Say About This Video

We first want to express that we are not supporting any political stance on this matter besides the politics of peace. The main significance is discovered in the lyrics and music of Matisyahu. Newly remade with this recent context as its remix, we felt this music video to be incredibly raw and poignant of the times.

We hope that one day this world will be a better place. That there will be no more fighting, no more war. That we, as the people of the world, will one day, live in peace. Matisyahu’s One Day hits home for many of us. May we all find the strength inside us to keep surviving and keep trying to love, no matter what.

Spreading Matisyahu’s Prayer in a Post

Some messages are better said with less words. Below is what was written on Matisyahu’s post sharing the remade video, which was shared on July 21st 2014. This is all that we have left to say too.

Please God, no more…one day. Please help us get there.

Amen.
