Jim Carrey is back in the spotlight after his latest controversial interview with E! News reporter Catt Sadler last Friday at the 2017 Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS party. The 55-year-old actor and comedian ripped into Sadler, and Carrey’s bizarre comments are making some people wonder if he was just messing with the reporter, or if he’s truly lost it, noting Carrey’s long time battle with depression and bipolar disorder.
“There’s no meaning to any of this. I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could f*** come to and join, and… here I am,” Carrey said. “I mean you’ve got to admit, it’s completely meaningless.”
Caught off guard by Carrey’s response, Sadler says, “Well they say they’re celebrating icons. Do you believe in icons?”
Carrey responds by saying, “Boy, that is just the absolute lowest aiming, you know, possibility that we can come up with. It’s like icons, do you believe in icons? I don’t believe in personalities, I don’t believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air.”
When Sadler tries to state that certain icons have the power to inspire others, Carrey cuts her off and sings “you shut her down now.”
With the E! News reporter left speechless, Carrey continues on saying, “Yeah I don’t believe in icons, I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personality, beyond invention of the skies, beyond the red ‘S’ that you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off. I believe that it’s deeper than that. I believe that we’re a field of energy, dancing for itself. And… I don’t care.”
Sadler, visibly irritated, notes Carrey’s expensive suit and attire just for the occasion.
“No, I didn’t get dressed up,” Carrey said. “There is no me. There is just things happening… and there is clusters of tetrahedrons moving around together.”
Carrey ends the interview with, “we don’t matter, that’s the good news,” and leaves a dumbfounded Sadler on the red carpet.
